Waipu business Northpine celebrates the Scottish heritage of Waipu with sponsorship of the $35,000 Northpine Waipu Cup.

The race is now well established as an integral part of the Ruakaka winter racing season, attracting the open class gallopers looking for that better track condition on the sand based course at Ruakaka. With over $170,000 in stake money payable on the day the meeting attracts good quality runners to make for a quality Saturday afternoon of thoroughbred racing.
Northpine Ltd is an award-winning, privately-owned timber manufacturer based at Waipu (Northland), with a distribution centre in Silverdale, near Auckland. Northpine was established in 1999 by Keith Reay, Richard Wilson and Bruce Larsen from the rundown assets of the defunct Waipu Timber Company.
Northpine timber products come only from sustainably managed, high density Northland pine forests – because reliable academic research shows that pine grown in Northland is stronger, harder and stiffer than anywhere else in New Zealand.
As a Waipu based business it is appropriate that the non-racing activities are themed to join in with the Waipu in Tartan celebrations of the village's Scottish heritage. The kilts, pipers, dancers and whisky are to the fore with prizes for those who attend and are judged the best representation of Scottish colours.

|A Guide for today's race meeting:
||Saturday June 30
||Free parking within close proximity of entry gates and marked disabled parking spots including on tiered mound for viewing of races from car. Drive down Peter Snell Road and follow the road around the track.
||Free entry to the course with ample viewing areas such as under-cover tiered seating or standing and expansive lawn areas to place a rug or bring your own chair.
||Owners with horses racing today please call into the office for your Parade Ring deck and Sunline Bar passes and privileges. Just tell the staff your horses name and then your name. Photo identification may be required.
||Horses can be viewed pre-race in the parade ring at the southern end of the course. A short walk past the office on the carpark side takes you to the parade area for a visual inspection of the horses and to see the riders mount. The horses enter the course by passing in front of the elevated area if you don't wish to walk.
