The Cup has attracted a slightly stronger field this year and the support races offer a number of chances with exposed race form. The eight race programme will commence at 12.27 and finish at 4.39. The ITM/GIB Whangarei Cup is race 6 at 3.24pm. A field of eleven have accepted for the cup. There is a mixture of the up and coming Poker Face and Redcayenne tackling the seasoned stayers like Kaharau, Smedley, Kipling Girl and He's Cavalier. There is a good mixture of local chances from the Rae and Gibbs/Bradley stables but with runners from the Tony Pike, Moroney/Gerard, Richard Collett and Stephen McKee teams well to the fore. The betting on the meeting will have the additional interest of being part of the TAB's $100,000 terminating pick 6 that will be the combined last three races of both the Ruakaka and Trentham meetings.
