Updating the Racing Bill, racedates and Lion Red Pubs& Clubs Punters Challenge
The NZ Racing Industry Bill is in the Select Committee stage and is attrcating many submissions. The 2020/21 racing season's race date calender is being negotiated between NZTR and RITA and the first of Ruakaka's winter season meetings is scheduled fro May 13.
RACING INDUSTRY BILL – AN UPDATE ON ITS PROGRESS
According to the Government the Racing Industry Bill finalises the post-transition governance structure of the racing industry, creates a legislative framework to enable property to better benefit the racing industry, and enables new ways of seeking approval for betting products.
The Bill is in the Select Committee stage and the Deputy Chairman Matt Mathias and General Manager Bill Colgan recently attended a hearing, in Auckland, with the Select Committee to voice to the Members of the Select Committee the support for the overall intention of the changes to improve the racing industry. The Club’s presentation also highlighted a number of clauses within the Bill that negatively impact on the property rights of the Club and provides an over-riding power of influence of NZ Thoroughbred Racing on the Club’s property decisions.
Like many other Clubs the WRC Board has been pro-active to protect the Club without losing the benefits of the proposed changes to the industry.
The full detail of the verbal presentation at the hearing and the written submission can be read by clicking the items below.
The Club can confirm it is scheduled to race on Wednesday May 13, Saturday June 13 and 27; and Saturday July 11th. The new season dates from 1 August 2020 are being negotiated at the moment and the Club is working hard to retain eleven meetings. NZTR is planning to remove a date from our schedule. At the moment the successful December race meeting is under threat of being removed to Matamata’s advantage.
